JUNIOR WARRANT COMPETITION IN THE UK

An additional award can be won by young dogs when gaining a number of points over a number of shows. The points can only be won between the ages of 6 and 18 months, and are awarded for class wins at both Championship and Open Shows. The points awarded are:-

Championship Shows - 3 points for each 1st place in a breed class.

Open Shows (or Ch. Shows without CC's) - 1 point for each 1st place in a breed class.

Additionally, it should be noted that the relevant points can not be claimed if there are less than 3 dogs actually present in each class for which the points are being claimed. Also, points can be claimed for only one show in any 4 days (i.e. allowing 3 clear days between qualifying shows). Finally, at least of 12 points must be gained at Open Shows and at least 12 points at Championship Shows.   A minimum of 3 points must be won at from Championship Shows where Challenge Certificates for the breed are on offer and a minimum of 3 points won at Open Shows or Championship Shows where Challenge Certificates are not offered for the breed

These points are not purely limited to the "Puppy" and "Junior" classes but for any class wins whilst the dog is in it's relevant age of 6 - 18 months. The Junior Warrant is awarded by the Kennel Club after a total of 25 points have been won. To receive the certificate you need to complete a form (obtainable from the Kennel Club), detailing the relevant class wins, which, following its receipt and confirmation by the Kennel Club, a certificate will be issued. To win a junior warrant also qualifies your dog for a Kennel Club Stud book number.....see Crufts Qualify page

Due to the high number of dogs achieving a Junior Warrant  it has been decided that a series of qualifying heats will be held by General Canine Societies from all around the country scheduling Open Shows during September this year. These special events will be held after the close of the Open Shows.

The qualifying period of eligibility to compete in the qualifying heats is for all dogs which have qualified for a Junior Warrant within the period 1st October  - 31st July .  It is appreciated that some dogs will be over 18 calendar months of age should they qualify for the Final.

Dogs may be entered in all the qualifying heats. However, once qualified, exhibitors will be required to withdraw the qualified dog from any subsequent Junior Warrant qualifying heat(s). The refund of entry fees is at the discretion of the organising society.

The organising society will be responsible for selecting the judge, who will be qualified to judge best in show at open shows. Five dogs and a reserve will be selected by the judge and subsequently invited to the Grand Final in November.

Eligible dogs do not need to be entered for the Open Show in order to compete in the Junior Warrant Competition Qualifier, although entries must be made prior to the show's closing date and be accompanied with the relevant entry fee
