A very happy story from Angela Carolyn I met Tucker at Afghan Hound Rescue of Southern California ’Sandy’s Place’ and adopted him on 7/09/02. It was love at first sight and an instant bond was there between us. I just had to change the name and Sandy suggested Tulare, which had a nice ring to it. This beautiful creature that looked like a little fawn had been found starving in a barn with horses in Tulare County. His owner was evidently a drunk and did not care. Tulare is the most affectionate Afghan Hound I have ever known and I cannot imagine how he felt being stuck out in the barn. He had been totally shaved down and looked and acted nothing like the dog you see today. Thank goodness someone had the smarts to call Afghan Hound Rescue...... a few days later Priscilla drove Tulare up to me in Big Bear. Tulare was extremely nervous when he arrived in Big Bear and trying to groom him was a horrendous affair with him screaming so loud I am sure the neighbours thought I was murdering him. This went on for months. It was awful. We took him out with us to look at cars and he planted himself and had to be carried back to the car. With much love and attention he has become more confident by the day and in October 2003 he did his first commercial for Budweiser which was shown during the Grammy’s - there he was in the middle of Hollywood filming and as confident as can be. He had $800 worth of hair extensions in his hair and was so patient when his Hollywood Hairdresser was gluing them in. I am so proud and such a bragger about him but he has come so far why shouldn’t I be. Subsequently he has done an editorial for an Italian Magazine with top photographer Peggy Sirotta, a Hartz commercial where he steps out of a white limousine, a Verizon commercial at an Italian Mansion in Beverly Hills - pardon me but who needs a man when your dog takes you to the finest places. Trainers, Actors and Crew all love Tulare as he is so friendly and trainable. He loves working and I can almost see him saying .... ’so when is my next gig’?? He made his stage debut at the Orange County Fair in California going up on stage to represent our Breed, and then again at the VDog and Owner Look Alike’ contest at an old theatre in San Pedro. We won a ribbon that is just like the one from ’Best in Show’. With his acting career his has now become Tula (pronounced TooLaa). He really is my shining Star in more ways than one and I love him more than life itself. He lives his life in Big Bear with three other Afghan Hounds, an affie/borzoi mix, a Siberian Husky, a big bear special dog, two cats, a canary and a parrot -- oh and a husband who according to the dogs takes up too much space in the bed. I don’t know how we will every thank Sandy and Priscilla of Afghan Hound Rescue of So. CA, INC for being there and for bringing us together. Angela owns Cheetah Wear International - and Doggie Secrets, be sure to check out the T-shirts & Day Planners she sells there in support of Afghan Hound Rescue of So. CA, INC.
