QUESTION "I was wondering if any one can help me? Since my affies have been young we have always wormed our dogs regularly with Drontal plus worming tablets. But recently my oldest affie who is 8 was ill after been wormed with sickness and diarrhoea this had never occurred before. But my other affie has no problems with been wormed and was fine when wormed with drontel plus.
I was wondering if any one can recommend a good all round wormer instead of Drontal plus. But I think tablets are best for my affies because granules, paste or liquid will properly not go down to well with my affies!!!!!!!!!"

ANSWER "All mine are done with Strongrid as one dog throws up with Panacur but all the others are fine with it"

ANSWER "I can't really recommend anything for you as I use Drontal for all mine but Panacur gave them all problems so would never use that again"

ANSWER " Working as a veterinary nurse I see this a bit, not all dogs react in same way to drontal and it is one of the best all round wormers you can get. The latest thing with all the drugs companies now is to make things more palatable there is a new (ish) wormer that we sell at work which is called "panacur favourites" it is given to the dog as a treat, it looks/smells and has the texture of a meaty treat but with the wormer inside it does work, we've even tried it for the fussiest of dogs and cats and it does work"

ANSWER  "I agree with you about the Drontal being good, was wondering about the new Panacur you mentioned as every puppy or adult dog I wormed with Panacur was scoured and really poorly, is it better now?"

ANSWER "We sell as much panacur as drontal, drontal is a much easier product to give to an older dog as its just a tablet. But we recommend panacur with puppies as easier to give paste. But they are both as good as each other"

ANSWER "I very much agree with YOUR comments ///// on PANACUR ...NOT a product I would touch ever again given my one and only experience in using PANACUR with puppies I do not care how much of this is sold by vets! well a lot of us know about the sales practices with VETS!!
I too prefer to worm using drontal on my adult dogs. Of course ALL worming products can present problems, they are in themselves a very toxic drug, well they have to be to get rid of those worms! I do think many of the products are possibly safer now than some of the older type wormers.
We know that many chemical agents can "trigger" Auto-Immune problems in our dogs IF they are genetically susceptible...and that is something we do not know until it happens! Wormers would come into this category like any other "foreign substance" be it a vaccine or a drug...For those wishing to avoid using chemical worming products there are a number of products available.  Four Seasons is a natural wormer available for Stock Nutrition. Another is a homoeopathic product called Canine Anti-Parasitic 12X from Folklore.
Raw Garlic is of course an age old remedy and many swear by this, also keeping dogs on a natural diet as advocated by Juliette DE B Levy, a subject in itself! I am also told that coconut is a good natural wormer and that most dogs love it!"

We
were annoyed at how much our vet was charging us for essential worming tablets so decided to buy them online and order enough to do all of our dogs together, we now buy them from http://www.wormers.co.uk/petframe.html at a cost of £32.62 for 20 including VAT, does anyone know of an online chemist that can beat this price?
